Livestock Gestation Calculator

Due dates for cows, goats, sheep, horses, and pigs.

How the calculator works

Choose an animal, the closest available breed, and the date she was bred or inseminated. The calculator adds elapsed days to that date: breeding is day zero. For cattle, the general reference is 283 days; goats use 150, sheep 147, horses 340, and pigs 114. Breed selections change the reference where cited values are available.

The average date is a planning estimate. Goats, horses, and pigs use their cited species ranges. Cattle windows use the selected average plus or minus 9 days, about twice the Angus study’s 4.69-day standard deviation; sheep windows shift the 144–152-day range with the breed average. These cattle and sheep window adjustments are our stated methods.

If she stayed with the male, enter the entire exposure period to preserve the uncertainty in your record. Reverse mode works backward from a birth date. The return-to-heat line uses the cited cycle lengths as an observation prompt, not proof of pregnancy. Keep the average, window, and actual observations separate, and confirm pregnancy with your veterinarian.

Frequently asked questions

How is the due date calculated?

The calculator adds the selected species or breed average to the breeding date, counting elapsed days. The breeding day is day zero.

Why is there a range instead of one date?

Pregnancy length varies. The central date uses an average; the window shows the cited species range or the stated cattle or sheep calculation method.

Can I enter a pasture-breeding period?

Yes. Select “Exposed over a period” and enter the first and last dates with the male. The result shows the due interval and full earliest-to-latest window.

Can I work backward from a birth date?

Yes. Select “Breeding date” in the mode switch and enter an expected or actual birth date to estimate the likely breeding date and possible window.

Does it save my animals?

Single results live in the page link; its query parameters may reach the hosting provider as part of the requested URL. The herd planner saves your list in this browser only and does not upload it.

Is this veterinary advice?

No. These are estimates from published averages; confirm pregnancy with your veterinarian.
